Shatavari (asparagus racemosus)
Shatavari is a member of the Liliaceae or Lily family which includes Garlic, Onions and Chives. Shatavari is from an Indian word meaning roughly “a woman who has a hundred husbands”. It is renowned for increasing fertility and has a long history of use in Ayurveda, especially for the female reproductive system.
It has been used to support women through every stage of life by regulating estrogen production. Shatavari has been used traditionally for supporting symptoms associated with menopause like hot flashes, loss of libido, irritability and insomnia. Shatavari has been used traditionally to regulate menstrual cycles, manage PMS symptoms, alleviate menstrual cramps and control the amount of blood lost during menstruation.
Shatavari has been used as an aphrodisiac in men and to support the health of sperm when combined with Ashwagandha.
